Free, Me.

Poems

I close my eyes and find I’m running again.

Away from all of his shit and away from him.

Once again.

I haven’t run this road in a short but long while.

I’ve just been sitting still, without my real smile.

In denial.

Why is he still here and she is gone?

Tortuously us, just lingering on.

It’s wrong.

Drowning himself — drowning me —

Beneath the garbage and alcohol and weed.

He’s diseased.

Take yourself down, but leave me be.

Go away! Far away, so I can be free.

Free me.

Set me free! Please. 🙏

Ghost Trees

Poems

by Cora J. Ellewood

There are ghost trees on my drive.

Stripped down naked, bearing their souls to the world.

Looking dead but clearly alive.

Bark stretched painfully tight,

Peeling away to reaveal a new you inside…

Your young skin there, bare and paper white.

Your arms reaching as far as they can,

Searching for something good out there

To cling to, to grab them and save their lives.

Into the darkness and the light,

Upward and outward,

Trying…

Stretching…

Clinging…

Begging for life.

Please save my life!

And I will give you a life.

I will give you my life.

My heart feels every part of you

Every time we meet.

My body calls to me to run to you.

To throw myself into and onto you

Wrap around and hold you…

And let you hold me tight.

Until we both feel all right.

And in my heart and in my head,

I stretch my arms around you, my friends.

My blessed bare barked naked ghostly friends.

She Calls To Me •

Poems

Here I am,

Lying awake in the middle of the night

‘Roused by the moon’s beckoning light.

She calls through the window,

The blinds,

The trees

To me…

“Come now, child,

It’s time to set yourself free.

Give over to the ideal, release and believe.

You will not fall. You will not fail.

You will soar. And you will sail.

And fly…

On wings of strength and faith and soul’s pure delight.

Like spinning cartwheels through night’s starry sky.”

Wheeeeeee!

I am me. •arms to the stars•

Set free.
